The non-living components of the environment, such as air, water, and land, are referred to as abiotic components. An ecosystem can range in size from a tidal pool to the Amazon rainforest. Freshwater, terrestrial, and ocean ecosystems are the three types of ecosystems that can be generically described.

Freshwater ecosystems are the rarest ecosystems, covering about $1.8$percent of the earth's surface. They are diversified in nature, allowing fish, reptiles, phytoplankton, amphibians, and bacterial and fungal species to flourish. Lakes, streams, rivers, and springs are examples of freshwater environments.

Terrestrial ecosystems are extremely diverse and can be divided into big groups known as biomes. Individual ecosystem diversity is masked by these groupings. Tropical rain forests, deciduous forests, coniferous forests, savannas, deserts, and tundra are examples of terrestrial ecosystems.

The most prevalent type of ecology is the ocean ecosystem. They cover $75\%$of the Earth's surface. The shallow ocean, deep ocean surfaces, and deep ocean water are separated into three divisions. Deep ocean water is more diverse than the surfaces of the shallow and deep oceans.
