In solids, particles are tightly packed in a fixed structure, allowing minimal movement, which leads to high density. Liquids have particles that are less tightly packed and can move around each other, resulting in moderate density. Gases, however, have particles that are very far apart and move at high speeds in all directions; this arrangement is what gives gases their very low density.
