The structures of heme, chlorophyll and vitamin $B_{12}$are coordinate complexes which have large organic molecules as ligands. The table below shows the corresponding central metal atom of each compound.

All three compounds have large organic compounds attached as ligands. Each complex is composed of a metal ion with a polydentate ligand attached to it through 4 donor atoms. The donor atom for these ligands is also similar, they are all Nitrogen atoms that attach to the metal ion, and enclosing the metal ion in a cyclical compound. Lastly, the oxidation state of each metal ion is similar. They all have +2 oxidation states.
