The process starts in the cell nucleus with transcription, where DNA is transcribed into messenger RNA (mRNA). At the ribosome, the sequence of the mRNA is translated into a specific sequence of amino acids, thus creating a protein. Diving deep into the first stage, transcription is comparable to an intricate dance, where enzymes and molecules work in harmony to transcribe genetic information. During this stage, an enzyme called RNA polymerase attaches to a specific region of the DNA, known as the promoter site.

As the RNA polymerase moves along the DNA strand, it unwinds the double helix and reads the nucleotides on one of the DNA strands. It uses this strand as a template to synthesize a complementary strand of mRNA. This mRNA is a single-stranded copy of the gene, which encodes for a specific protein. Transcription has three key phases: initiation, elongation, and termination. In initiation, the enzyme and DNA come together. Elongation refers to the growth of the mRNA strand, and termination is where the completed mRNA molecule is released to be processed before it exits the nucleus.

The ribosome reads the sequence of codons (three-nucleotide sequences) on the mRNA one at a time. Transfer RNA (tRNA) molecules bring amino acids to the ribosome in the correct sequence. Each tRNA has an anticodon that is complementary to the mRNA codon, ensuring that the amino acids are added in the proper order. This is akin to workers on an assembly line adding parts to a product.

Detailed understanding of translation includes recognition of the phases: initiation, where the ribosomal subunits assemble around the mRNA; elongation, where amino acids are added to the growing peptide chain; and termination, when a stop codon is reached, signaling the completion of the protein.
