Due to the steric strain in the epoxide ring, it readily participates in reactions with strong acids and with nucleophiles.

Neutral nucleophiles on reaction with epoxide and will attach at more substituted carbon of epoxide whereas negatively charged nucleophiles will be attached at less substituted carbon of the epoxide.
