Isomers are compounds comprising similar molecular formulas but distinct structures. There are several kinds of isomers. Some of them are position isomers and chain isomers.

Carbon comprises four bonds, and hydrogen comprises one bond. All the possible six-carbon skeletons are drawn, and the hydrogens are added so that all carbons have four bonds. The carbon skeletons can be drawn as follows:

• Illustrate the six-carbon straight-chain skeleton.
• Draw a five-carbon chain. Identify the various types of carbon atoms on the chain and add group to each carbon creating two skeletons.
• This process is repeated with the four-carbon skeletons to create the last two skeletons. The hydrogens are added to the remaining carbons to complete the structures.
