Types of carbenes

Carbenes are of two types: one is singlet carbine, and the other is triplet carbine. Singlet carbene contains paired electrons in one empty orbital. Triplet carbene contains two unpaired electrons in two empty orbitals.

Reagent used in the reaction

The formation of a 1,1 -dichlorocyclopropane ring from the double bonds of an alkene can be performed with the formation of a carbine intermediate. Carbene intermediate can be formed with the help of a reagent CH3Cl,KOH.
