Coastal Wetlands: Coastal areas that are flooded with saltwater or brackish water. They are highly productive ecosystems that provide resources and habitat for many species and migratory birds.

The oceanic zone is the vast open ocean that lies beyond the continental shelf. It can be further divided into several subzones based on geographic location and ocean currents: 1. Pelagic Zone: Open ocean water that is not near the ocean floor. It is further divided based on depth into the epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathypelagic, abyssopelagic, and hadalpelagic zones. 2. Coral Reefs: Located in clear, warm, and shallow water; these are among the most biologically diverse ecosystems on Earth, supporting a vast array of marine life. 3. Upwelling Zones: Areas where deep, cold, and nutrient-rich water rises to the surface due to ocean currents. These areas have high levels of primary production and support a variety of marine species.

Vertical life zones can be classified based on the amount of sunlight received and their distance from the ocean surface: 1. Sunlit (Euphotic) Zone: Extends from the surface down to about 200 meters. This zone receives enough sunlight for photosynthesis to occur and supports the highest concentration of marine life. 2. Twilight (Dysphotic) Zone: Extends from 200 meters down to about 1,000 meters. Some light penetrates this zone, but not enough for photosynthesis. It is a transition zone between well-lit and pitch-dark parts of the ocean. 3. Midnight (Aphotic) Zone: Extends from 1,000 meters down to the ocean floor. No sunlight can reach this zone, and organisms living here rely on food sources that sink from above or on chemosynthesis using chemicals from hydrothermal vents.
