Why do volcanoes and earthquakes often occur in similar locations or even occur together?

Tectonic plates are large pieces of the Earth's crust and upper mantle, collectively referred to as the lithosphere. These plates are in constant motion due to the Earth's outer shell dynamics, which result in the movement of the plates on the Earth's surface. There are seven major tectonic plates and several smaller ones.

Plate boundaries are the region where two or more tectonic plates meet. There are three types of plate boundaries: divergent, convergent, and transform. The interaction between these boundaries is the driving force behind the occurrence of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. 1. As the subducting plate melts, it can trigger volcanic eruptions on the surface and create earthquakes as the two plates grind against each other. 3. Transform boundaries: When two plates slide past one another, stress builds up along the fault lines, eventually causing earthquakes when the stress is released.

The majority of earthquakes and volcanoes occur close to the plate boundaries due to the release of stress and movement of the tectonic plates. The movements at these boundaries lead to the formation of faults, cracks, subduction zones, and rift valleys, which become the focal points for earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
