What is the main component of Earth’s core?

The Earth's core is a vast repository of the element iron, a fact that greatly influences the behavior of our planet. Iron is predominant in both the solid inner core and the liquid outer core. It is primarily this iron that gives the Earth its magnetic field through movements within the liquid outer core.

The significance of iron extends beyond magnetism. Given its high density and considerable atomic weight, iron's presence in the core plays a critical role in Earth’s gravitational field. The alloy of iron and nickel in the core creates a denser material than iron alone, which is essential for maintaining the structural integrity of this extreme environment.
