River boat cruise sailed 120 miles upstream for 12 hours

Upstream :

Distance travelled is 120 miles

time is 12 hours . Speed is (s-c)

Distance = speed * time

12(s-c)=120divideby12s-c=10

Downstream:

It took 10 hours to return to the dock.

Distance is 120 km, times is 10 hours

Speed is s+c

10(s+c)=120divideby10s+c=12

s-c=10s+c=12-----2s=22s=11s-c=1011-c=10-c=10-11c=1

the speed of the river boat in still water is 11 miles per hour
