Look under your bed for "dust bunnies." If there aren't any, look under your roommate's bed, the refrigerator, or any similar place that might have some. Once you find them, blow one toward another. Watch carefully and describe what happens as they meet. What happens if you repeat this action with additional dust bunnies? Will these dust bunnies ever have enough gravity to begin pulling themselves together? If they were in space instead of on the floor, might that happen? What force prevents their mutual gravity from drawing them together into a "bunny-tesimal" under your bed?

Gravitational attraction is a force that pulls objects toward each other. All objects with mass exert this force, from planets to tiny dust particles. However, the strength of gravitational attraction depends on the mass of the objects and the distance between them.

For dust bunnies, their mass is minuscule, so their gravitational pull on each other is incredibly weak. Although in theory any two masses will attract each other due to gravity, on Earth other forces are much stronger and mask this subtle effect.
For example, when you blow two dust bunnies towards each other, any motion caused by gravity is negligible. Their collective mass is too small to overcome other more dominant forces such as air resistance and friction. Therefore, you won’t observe them pulling together solely due to gravitational attraction.

Friction is a force that opposes the relative motion of two surfaces in contact. For dust bunnies on a floor, friction plays a crucial role in how they move, or rather, don't move.

When you blow one dust bunny towards another, besides air resistance, friction between the dust bunnies and the floor acts to slow them down. This makes it harder for them to collide with enough energy to stick together.
Frictional forces are much more significant on Earth than the weak gravitational pull between small masses. Thus, even though dust bunnies may touch, they won't combine to form a larger mass because friction and air resistance overpower their feeble gravity.

In space, the environment is vastly different from what we experience on Earth. One key difference is the absence of air, which means no air resistance. Another is the microgravity conditions that allow objects to float freely.

If you were to place the same dust bunnies in space, they wouldn't face air resistance or friction. This means the very weak gravitational attraction between them could have a more noticeable effect. The dust particles might very slowly drift towards each other and start to clump together.
However, even in space, the gravitational pull of dust bunnies remains weak due to their small mass. While they might eventually come together more easily than on Earth, forming substantial clumps or larger structures would still take a considerable amount of time and many more particles.
