This frequency dependence of scattering explains why during the day, clouds appear white as opposed to the blue sky. Therefore, there is no significant frequency dependence with cloud particles, which contrasts with the strong dependence observed with the smaller air molecules.

Visible light constitutes a small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum and is detected by the human eye. These light frequencies range from about 400 to 700 nanometers in wavelength and are perceived as different colors. Violet light has the shortest wavelength, around 400 nanometers, and red has the longest, around 700 nanometers. Therefore, when sunlight, which contains all visible light frequencies, interacts with atmospheric particles, each color can be scattered differently.

Clouds being white signifies that within the visible spectrum, cloud particles scatter light in a way that does not favor any specific wavelength. This equal scattering across all visible light frequencies combines to produce white light. Hence, the observation of white clouds can reinforce the concept that clouds contain particles large enough to scatter all components of visible light evenly.
