(II) Draw, approximately, the electric field lines about two point charges, +Q and –3Q, which are a distance l apart.

The electric field of a positive charge is directed away from it. The electric field of a negative charge is directed toward it.The direction of the net electric field due to these positive and negative charges is toward the negative charge.

Here, l is the separation distance between the two charges. The point charges are \( + Q\) and \( - 3Q\).

The field lines from the charge\( + Q\)emerge outward direction, and they are directed towards the charge\( - 3Q\). The field lines appear to be inside (toward) the negative charge. Some field lines form the loop in between both charges, as shown in the above figure.

The direction of the electric field of charge\( + Q\)is directed radially outward. The direction of the electric field of charge\( - 3Q\)is directed radially inward.

Thus, the electric field lines about the two-point charges \( + Q\) and \( - 3Q\) is shown in the above figure.
