Our planet is tilted on its axis at approximately 23.5 degrees relative to its orbit around the Sun. This axial tilt is responsible for the seasons as different hemispheres are tilted towards or away from the Sun at different times of the year. But it’s not just the seasons that are affected — the tilt also influences the visibility of circumpolar stars.

Because of Earth's tilt, the celestial poles are not directly above the geographic poles, except to those standing at the geographic poles themselves. The further from these points you are, the lower the celestial poles appear in the sky. This means that as you move towards the equator, fewer stars are circumpolar, until eventually, none are.
