Chapter 1: Q19DQ (page 459)
In designing structures in an earthquake-prone region, how should the natural frequencies of oscillation of a structurerelate to typical earthquake frequencies? Why? Should the structure have a large or small amount of damping?
Short Answer
The frequency of buildings should be different from that of Earthquake frequencies.
The buildings should also have a large amount of dampening in order to prevent buildings from swaying which again can make buildings tumble.
